Tips for creating a good interface for a language translator tool?

I don't know much about in-depth programming, but I do know a lot about design and implementation. If you are designing a desktop program, use pictures, icons, graphics, etc. whenever possible. I know that's something that lacks in a lot of those types of programs. This same thing could be applied in a webpage translator as well, I suppose. :)
