For an electronic dictionary, there are a number of handheld types that I unfortunately cannot comment on. For the computer though, I find JWPce to be indispensable. You can attach multiple dictionary files and quickly search through them. Additionally, it makes it easy to find unknown kanji via various lookup techniques, and is a text editor to boot.

First of all, I'm sure you've heard that translators are not accurate. Even paid, experienced human translators have difficulty translating some things exactly, but they can get around problems in ways that programmed algorithms can't.





If it's truly just a few things, if you post them onto here, people can tell you how to pronounce it - for example, "Tu as faim?" = To ah fam





There are some online dictionaries that say words for you. There are some on about.com, but you have to go to the language specific sites. For example, french.about.com. You can also search "audio dictionary" plus the language on google.|||Nope, online translators DO NOT work. They spit out garbage that is almost never correct.





Why don't you ask a question on here asking how to say/pronounce something and have a reliable speaker or even a native tell you how. That's really the best way.

What type of schooling is required to be an American Sign Language Translator?

Any recommended college classes? I'm in the process of learning Sign Language and my college counselors have been particularly useless in this department. If someone with experience could help me out, i'd really appreciate it =)|||The amount and type of schooling you need depends on what state you live in. In Ohio, where I live, the law just changed. We are required to have a bachelors degree. We also have to have taken an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) and we have to take a test to qualify as a legal interpreter. The best thing to do, in my opinion, is to contact the local chapter of Interpreters for the Deaf. Do a yahoo search on Registered interpreters for the deaf. Once you're at their national site, you can click on your state to get a link to their page. Once their, I would contact the president and ask them what the requirements are for your state and what colleges they recommend. You may have to attend a college out of state to finish your degree. Then, you need an algorithm which will conjugate verbs and decline nouns and build a resulting sentence in your new language.





Then....





You need all that same stuff in reverse, so you can translate back to English again.|||U can.

What is the most accurate free language translator?

I have to translate some stuff for a French project, but the translators that I have been using are not very accurate and I don't want a bad grade for incorrect translations. What is the most accurate translator available for free on the internet?





And btw i'm not cheating, I was given permission to use a translator because i'm translating sentences that we haven't learned in class yet.|||I am on Mary and Orla's side. One, online translators ARE hopeless. You will surely get bad marks by using them.


They are MACHINES, machines that cannot cope as soon as you want to translate even the slightest degree of complicated sentence. They CAN'T translate expressions or idioms, they CAN'T give you multiple options with all the explanations like a dictionary can. They DON'T have a big vocabulary, and they WILL make you look stupid ---- all it takes is one sentence, one verb, one word to be wrong and you look stupid.


You should not be studying a language if you are not going to use a dictionary, if you HAVE to learn a language, you should still learn it properly.


By the way, having to write things in a second language that you haven't learned yet is a silly idea, what's more, you don't learn anything from online translators.|||Most free translators are hopeless. You see they are unable to translate with the proper syntax, and even if they can sometimes, they are too limited to translate colloquial expressions. The most accurate way is to have a human who is knowledgeable in both languages translate it. Furthermore, there may be instances where something is technically correct according to grammatical rules, but incorrect in actual usage (for example, idiomatic expressions).





Surely you could translate "It's raining cats and dogs" into a language, like Italian: "Piove gatti e cani", but an Italian would probably look at you as if you had 2 heads. And it's not limited to these catchy phrases; there are many grammatical structures that are simply idiomatic.





We can only imagine that in the future there will be C3PO-like machines 'fluent in over 6 million forms of communication' :-) But, until that day comes, you're stuck with humans.

Any of the currently available on line translators (and not just the ones which are free) can't translate "accurately" any language.


However it's quite obvious that even human translations are highly depending on the specific knowledge. As here above answerer said there are idiomatic expressions that can't be rendered word by word and also who has a pretty good grasping of a second language can make fatal mistakes, same as I'm surely doing in this answer. In fact I'm Italian mother tongue and with reference to the example made by previous answerer (It's raining cats and dogs) I confirm an Italian would look at you as if you had 3 heads and not just 2 since correct word by word translation would be "Piovono cani e gatti" (not "Piove cani a gatti).


So everybody knows the Italian idiomatic expression with the same meaning is "Piove a catinelle" (It's raining with buckets down) !|||There isn't really anything that good for free.|||the best in the net is

A question about being a language translator in the Navy?

I'm thinking about being a language translator in the Navy. I want to enlist for just 2 years. But, the training typically takes a little over 1 year. Would the one-year training period be counted towards the 2 years of the initial sign-up? or would I have to serve the 2 years in addition to the one-year training, thus making the total time in the Navy a little over three years?|||National Call to Service is a program that will allow you to only serve 18 months on active duty. This 18 month counter doesn't actually start though until you complete all of your initial training. After your 18 months you will be required to serve an additional 4 years in the selected reserves. Which means that you will drill at least one weekend per month and attend 2 weeks annual training every year. The NCS program is only open to a select group of ratings or jobs. I don't remember ever seeing a NCS option for CTI (Crypto Tech Interprative). You may want to contact your local recruiter to double check that for you.





NCS is the only possible way you will get into a CTI seat without having to serve at least 6 years of active duty time. The 6 years starts the day you arrive at Basic Training. In the Navy the shortest contract that you will see is 4 years of active duty, not including the National Call to Service.|||I don't think you can enlist for 2 years active to get a CTI school slot. In the past 2 year enlistments carried with them 6 year active reserve commitments. I don't know if that's offered any more. You really need to discuss it with a recruiter.





School time is included as a part of the total active duty commitment.|||there are NO 2 year contracts in the Navy. closest is NCS: 15 months of AD service( clock starts AFTER A school) followed by a mandatory 24 months in the reserves.





CTI is NOT part of that program.





CTI is a minimum 5 years commitment, based on the length of A school training.|||A contract is a contract. If you sign up for 2 years or 4 years, that's how long you're in. If the training takes 1 of those years, then the remaining time is left on the contract.





BUT....... be sure to read the contract!!!|||Unless you get an answer from a recruiter or someone else who should really know, ask a recruiter.





One thing I know for sure, your training would be in Monterey, California, a really nice place to be.|||You can do national call to service which is 18 months, starting after school. Far as 2 yrs. goes, no you have to do 4 or more. Ask your recruiter about national call to service.

"Sie" can mean "you" in the formal address, "she", "it" (referring to a feminine noun) or "they", and "weiß" can mean either "white" or "knows". Just make sure you get one with Portugal's Portuguese. I want to be a foreign language translator in business as a major, and my minor to be in business and banking. I'll be mostly in international business. I want to know, what are the best foreign languages to take if I want to be a translator? Will the Italian and French languages work? Or will something else like German or Spanish be better? Italian would also be okay, although there might be more demand for French depending on where you work. Spanish is obviously a big demand, but because of that a lot of people tend to gravitate toward Spanish. German is about the same as Italian. It's okay, but it depends on where you work.





You could also do a TON with Mandarin Chinese and Arabic, but both require learning new alphabets are tough languages. Russian is another option.|||The most spread languages are as follows: Spanish (Latin America %26amp; Spain), French (France, Quebec in Canada, North Africa, remote Colonies, parts of the Middle East like Lebanon), German (Germany, Switzerland and Austria) and the last one would be Italian (since it is only spoken in Italy), so I'd recommend you go for the most used and spoken languages!!
