What's the best degree to combine a language degree with? I want to travel the world or be a translator?

My advisor suggests I don't just major in one language because it is not useful on its own. I would like to travel the world or become a translator. What should I double major in?What's the best degree to combine a language degree with? I want to travel the world or be a translator?
I strongly recommend law, business, international relations/policy or science. This opens the door for legal, business, policy, or scientific/medical translation/interpretation, all of which require familiarity with technical/vocational vocabulary in both languages.



Anyone who knows multiple languages can become a translator/interpreter with some training, but only someone who is educated in these particular areas fully grasp the material well enough and have the vocabulary to translate/interpret these areas well. Even for a native English speaker, it takes some schooling and familiarity to understand legal or medical speak. By pursuing a double major in these areas, you can specialize in the type of translation/interpretation you want to do.
Most translators know more than one language, or they are experts in areas such as international business %26amp; trade, science or some other subject area. You may want to consider double majoring in business or international relations. Another option you may want to consider is TESOL. Either International Business or History. Either one of this degree helps understanding the basic priniciple of culture and customs when you travel abroad.
Consider international business or international relations, both of which will give you many career opportunities involving travel. If you like to write, English or journalism might also be an option.
