I'll do the opposite and demonstrate what happens when you try to do a language translator that doesn't have any intelligence. There was an early attempt at an English-Russian translator. They fed in the English phrase "Out of sight, out of mind". They then took the Russian text and fed it back through, and got back "Invisible Idiot".
To do *good* translation requires understanding the semantics (meaning) of the text - and that requires intelligence of some sort (either artificial or natural).
